Fisher v. Texas Videos at Oyez

On Wednesday, October 10, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments for Fisher v. University of Texas, the closely-watched affirmative action case on race-conscious admissions in higher education.

The Oyez Project has released two videos on the case, both featuring Chicago-Kent faculty members Carolyn Shapiro and Sheldon Nahmod.

In the first video, Profs. Shapiro and Nahmod provide background for the case:

In the second video, Profs. Shapiro and Nahmod discuss the arguments made by each side in the case:

Professor Nahmod has previously blogged about affirmative action at his blog, Nahmod Law.

Chicago-Kent Visiting Assistant Professor Vinay Harpalani has also been directly involved in the Fisher case–his forthcoming law review article, “Diversity Within Racial Groups and the Constitutionality of Race Conscious Admissions,” offers a novel doctrinal resolution of issues in Fisher and was quoted several times in the amicus brief of the Society for American Law Teachers (SALT). Read his article here and the amicus brief here.
