A roundup of faculty appearances in news sources and media from the last week.

10/4 – An earlier New Scientist article featuring Professor Lori Andrews was mentioned in a CBS News story about genetic company 23AndMe’s controversial DNA-analysis patent (“Critics fear new 23andMe patent will breed ‘designer babies’”).

10/4 – The ABA Journal highlighted the 2013 Futures Conference, which took place at Chicago-Kent last weekend (“Law practice pays ‘too much too quickly to the wrong people doing the wrong thing,’ UK lawyer says“). The conference was sponsored by the College of Law Practice Management, on which Professor Ron Staudt serves as president.

10/6 – Professor Todd Haugh was quoted in a USA Today article about the upcoming sentencing of former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick on corruption charges (“How corruption deepened Detroit’s crisis”); the same story was also printed in the Detroit Free Press (“The high cost of corruption: How Kwame Kilpatrick’s crimes deepened Detroit’s crisis”).

10/7 – Professor Martin Malin appeared on a Fox 32 News video segment about a Chicago-area woman who is taking her fight against joining a union to the Supreme Court (“Supreme Court to hear case involving forced unionization of caregivers in Ill.”)

10/8A post on the My So-Called Writer’s Life blog featured Professor Bernadette Atuahene’s post-apartheid property struggle documentary film, Sifuna Okwethu (We Wants What’s Ours).

10/8 – Professor Carolyn Shapiro appeared on a First Business video segment to talk about some upcoming SCOTUS cases dealing with business interests and the workplace (“Supremes in the Workplace”).

10/8 – Dean Harold Krent was interviewed by WDCB Radio about the start of the new SCOTUS Term (“Supreme Court Back In Session“).

10/8 – Professor Carolyn Shapiro appeared on WTTW-TV Chicago Tonight with Illinois Solicitor General (and former C-K professor) Michael Scodro and David Franklin to discuss the new SCOTUS Term (“Supreme Court’s New Session”).

10/8 – Professor Sheldon Nahmod was quoted in a New Republic article on whistleblower John Dodson and free speech (“Why Can’t a ‘Fast and Furious’ Whistleblower Publish His Tell-All?”).

10/7 – Professor Adrian Walters authored a new post on his blog, The Walters Way, titled “On the importance of listening.”

10/8 – Chicago-Kent’s Documentary Film Series on Race and the Law, organized by Professor Bernadette Atuahene, presents a screening of A Class Divided, featuring a post-film discussion with Professor Carolyn Shapiro.
