Banned Books Week: Block Party and Nancy Krent

Library Director Keith Ann Stiverson at Chicago-Kent Block Party

Thank you to faculty and staff who shared a favorite banned book with us last week. The submissions prompted conversations, anecdotes, and memories of early reading.

A group of us from the Library attended the Law School’s Block Party last Saturday and scheduled a session on banned books. We spoke with current students, alumni, and their families about their favorite books from the lists at the ALA Banned Books Week site.

A number of students from other countries asked a lot of questions about book banning in the U.S., and Nancy Krent filmed this video for us in the Marovitz Courtroom with a few remarks about To Kill a Mockingbird.

Nancy Krent is a partner at Hodges Loizzi Eisenhammer Rodick & Kohn, LLP. Proving how much they love this book, here’s a photo of Dean Krent at the Block Party with their dog Scout, named for the heroine of To Kill a Mockingbird:
