Dr Gordian N. Hasselblatt, LL.M.

Gordian is a Partner in the Cologne office of CMS Hasche Sigle. He has extensive practical experience with regard to intellectual property with a focus on international trade mark, design and copyright law and related litigation. The Juve Manual of Commercial Law Practices (as of 2007) lists Gordian as “leading practitioner in trade mark law”.

He is recommended as IP expert in “European Legal Experts”. The World Trademark Review (2009) ranked Gordian as one of “The trademark experts’ experts” in Germany. In the commercial journal Wirtschaftswoche (2011) Gordian is listed as one of Germany’s “Top-Lawyers for Trademark Law” and in the Who’s Who Legal (2012) as “ranked highly” in the field of trademark law and known for his “brilliant expertise” in unfair competition, design and advertising matters. In Legal Experts EMEA 2013 Gordian is highly recommended in IP and in Chambers Global Guide (as of 2013) he is ranked as a leading lawyer in IP law. Furthermore, Gordian is recommended as leading trademark professional in WTR (as of 2012). Who’s Who Legal (as of 2015) lists Gordian as one of the five “most highly regarded” trade mark experts in Germany.

Editor and co-author of the two commentaries in the English language Community Trade Mark Regulation and Community Design Regulation, published in spring 2015 by C.H. Beck Hart Nomos. Editor and co-author of Munich Attorney’s Handbook Intellectual Property; co-author Handbook on Unfair Competition; co-author Commentary on German Act on Unfair Competition Law (UWG); editor of textbook Intellectual Property and Copyright Law; in addition to a number of further publications, his expertise also extends to considerable lecturing and teaching work, especially abroad.

Gordian is adjunct Professor at both the University of the Pacific, Sacramento, for International Intellectual Property Law and the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Chicago, for International Design Law. Furthermore, he is a member of the Management Committee of German Attorneys’ Association for Intellectual Property & Media and a member of the expert committee of the German Association for Intellectual Property and Copyright (GRUR) for trade mark and unfair competition law. In addition, he is a frequent speaker at International conferences on various IP-issues.
